19th July 2009
Last year was as busy as ever for the Amenities Group.
Our Summer Fete on June 15th 2008 was a great success. The community came together to produce a day enjoyed by all and it was wonderful to be able to give a donation of £500 to Mencap.
On September 10th, we organised a visit to the Dorothy Clive Gardens. Twenty five people had a lovely afternoon.
Our Autumn Supper at the White Lion was on October 15th. Sixty nine people attended.
Carols on the Green on December 15th was another very successful event and we were pleased to be able to give a donation of £150 to the Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
On March 13th this year we helped John Whitehead organise an event called "Our Icons". It proved to be a very interesting day and those who attended enjoyed the presentation.
Our event on May 8th was called "Memories and Views of Hankelow". Charlie Foster presented a slide show and people spoke of their memories. Over fifty people then enjoyed refreshments and more displays of photographs in the schoolroom.
We set up a cake stall at this year's Audlem Carnival on May 25th to help raise funds for our Summer Fete. Not as many cakes were donated this year which was disappointing but we were able to sell tickets for our Grand Draw and Ian Jones brought his football game. We raised just over £300 and I would like to thank everyone who gave us their support.
We had a beautiful sunny afternoon for our Village Fete this year on Sunday June 14th. The programme of events began with the Audlem St James Maypole Dancers. Everyone enjoyed a mini concert given by Musicland's young musicians, and the Cheshire Academy gave a wonderful gymnastic display.
Tea and home-made cakes, barbecue food and ice-creams were served all afternoon. The village green was full of people enjoying the various stalls and games. After the children's races the afternoon finished with the Grand Prize Draw.
We supported the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Audlem First Responders this year and were able to give a donation of £500 to each charity. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped in any way to make this event such a success.
With more events to be arranged for the rest of the year we hope for your continued support.
